Christmas Gift Guide for Food Lovers

Often, for me, the most exciting part of Christmas is looking through the Christmas food magazines and scouring the shops for what is new. Obviously it's the perfect time to stock up on family favourites too. Edible or quaffable Christmas gifts are always welcome in my experience. So, we've put together some top ideas for what to buy a food lover this Christmas.

For those who like to get Pickled: Opies Pickled Walnuts

Available from most major supermarkets £3.00 Recipe ideas from Opies

Pickled Walnuts would often get name checked on Strictly Come Dancing by ballroom bigwig Len Goodman. They're a Christmas essential for many ... including us. Never tried one? In many ways they're just like a pickle .. but their soft texture could catch you unaware. It's not what you'd expect. We especially like them with cold meats and cheese but I also throw them into a rich beef casserole too. If you're a pasta fan, then stir some soft cheese, lots of herbs and chopped pickled walnuts into spaghetti or tagliatelle - yum!

For the Coffee Connoisseur: Nespresso Lungo Coffee Cups

Buy from Nespresso £19

We LOVE a Nespresso and have had our machine for a couple of years. This year, I treated Mr P to some actual Nespresso cups. Do you know what, they really improve the coffee experience. Packed in two per box - highly recommended for the caffeine fiend in your life.

For the Perfect Curry Night: Spice Pots Kit

Buy from Spice Pots £14.95

We love a good curry. So, I can't wait to try these to spices.

There are four spice mixes in the kit - Korma, Tandoori Masala, Goan and Bhuna. Each is packed into beautiful metal tins. I think we may add in some extra chilli into the korma as we like a curry with a bit of kick.

The Curry Night Kit includes some inspiration too as there's a recipe booklet in the box with 8 recipe ideas. The box and pots are fully recyclable too - which is fab!

For the Foodie that has everything: Sauce Shop - Brussels Sprouts Sauce & Truffles Gift Set

Buy from The Sauce Shop £9.99

Now we haven't tried this yet as we want to save it for a family Christmas get-together (within the 3 household rule, obvs). I thought it was a great thing to bring along to our family of foodies. Who won't like the taste of Christmas in a bottle? And, for those who don't like Brussels sprouts (like my sis) then she can tuck into one of the sprout chocolate truffles instead.

For the Cookery Book Lover: Under the Olive Tree Recipe Book by Irini Tzortzoglou

Buy from Amazon, Foyles, Waterstones and iTunes (Ebook)

It's obvious this book has been written from the heart. It's full of family recipes (from the likes of Brother Yiorgos, Aunty Katerina and Cousin Roula) as well as some lovely family photographs. There are some fabulous back stories as well as helpful hints - like how the Greeks cook their food. There are tips on ingredients as well as wine pairings. The recipes are divided into collections such as breakfast, Easter, Christmas as well as entertaining. I've already tried the Olive Oil, Almond & Candied Orange Baklava and can't wait to try many more.

Let Christmas be-gin. Or Edinburgh Gin to be precise. We've been fans of this Scottish Distillery for a number of years. This year, their latest launch is Poached Pear Liqueur. It's going to be a great winter warmer. I may even go one step further and warm it slightly on the radiator before drinking! The deep burgundy colour screams Christmas and would make a wonderful gift for the Gin Lover in your life.

Give a gift year-round: Food Magazine Subscription
