New resorts opening in the Maldives 2021

Despite the global uncertainties, there have still been hotels and resorts opening for the first time this year.

Due to the pandemic, many planned launches have unfortunately been postponed, no more so than in the Maldives. Some resorts have suffered huge delays intensified by trying to build in a remote destination during a global pandemic and border closures have also had an obvious impact too. But, despite this, there are a number of Maldivian resorts that have already opened in 2021 as well as others set to open their doors for the first time later in the year.

From the resorts that have already opened or are set to open, it's pretty evident that the ultra-luxury resort developments prevail. High profile international luxury hotel brands are really making their mark here. Not all resorts are being created from existing or uninhabited islands, there is an increasing number of resorts opening on artificially created islands.

Hotels and resorts in the Maldives opening in 2021.

We have researched each island to give a snapshot of the key resort highlights, villa and dining options.

Of all the openings, as we previously implied, the majority are ultra-luxury. The only exception of a simple resort is the opening of Cocogiri.

Here is a list of the new Maldives islands opening in 2021.

Rumoured to be opening are these resorts too:
