Product Review

The lovely folks at OGGS® recently sent me some of their new chocolatey bites to try. I couldn't wait to sample them as it's unusual to find egg-free things like Brownies and Millionaire Shortbread. So, here's what I thought of them ...

For someone like me who is intolerant to eggs, I couldn't wait to try the latest vegan bakery bite on the block. If I'm honest, there was an element of trepidation. In the past, you see, I've been a bit disappointed and distinctly underwhelmed with vegan cake options. They have tasted distinctly lacking; sometimes dry, often very crumbly.

So what about these OGGS® bites?

Two flavours have been launched: Brownie Bites and Millionaire Bites. Both vegan. There are 9 mini bites in each recyclable pack.

Brownie Bites are rich, moist, extremely chocolatey, fudgy and a little bit gooey - just how a brownie should be. The Brownie Bites are made all that more indulgent thanks to a chocolate chunk topping. Each bite counts as one serving and to be honest, as they are nicely rich, even someone like me with a sweet tooth only needs to eat one. At 58 calories each they're a satisfying sweet treat without consuming lots of calories. They held together well and didn't crumble or melt in my fingers.

Millionaire Bites are my favourite, but that could be because I'm more of a shortbread girl rather than a brownie fan. The base layer is a soft, shortbread which is almost crumbly. Then there's a generous middle caramel layer and a milk chocolate top. They're just 66 calories per bite so they are an indulgent treat. Quite frankly, you can't believe that they're vegan - they're that good!

Both variants were moist, held together well and delivered in terms of taste. So, if you're egg intolerant or following a vegan diet, these are a great option to satisfy sweet cravings.
